Bid session

From Conbledegook

An event where the audience votes to decide which of various bids will get to run a future con, usually the con two years from the current one. After the various bid committees and spoof bids do their bid presentations and answer questions from the audience, the moderator (often the Chair of the current con) will ask the audience to vote for one of the presented bids, hold over, or abstain. A vote to hold over means you think none of the presented bids are good enough and the decision should be delayed until next year's bid session. If there is only one year to go before the con, you will probably be given the option for no con instead of hold over. A vote for abstain means you are refusing to exercise your vote for whatever reason (perhaps only one bid has come forward, and you object to not being given a choice).
