Special badge

A badge that indicates that the bearer has a particular position or role, either temporary or permanent, eg. DCM, Committee, Ops Manager, Ops, Gopher Mother, Gopher, First Aider, Tech, Green Room, GoH. May either be a 'fancy' or special replacement for the standard membership badge (usually only for Committee and Guest) or an additional badge with a distinctive design and colour for each department or role. In the olden days, when badges were usually round and made of metal, this could lead to multi-talented fen (proto-ribbon sluts) clanking around with a fair amount of armour; this problem was somewhat mitigated with the advent of cheap flat laminated badges. Some conventions reduce the problem further by using ribbons or (rarely even at small cons) badge stickers to indicate position. This is almost never done with the DCM badge, as it is usually passed from person to person; since the role involves being easily visible the DCM badge can sometimes be a large, flamboyantly-ribboned affair.
